  • The wedding veil. Originally worn to “hide” the bride from the groom until he takes her as his wife, the wedding veil is nowadays frequently associated with fashion and style, more than with anything else. Of course, they still symbolize purity – but they are not a “must” and they are frequently worn as a hairpiece, rather than an actual accessory to hide the bride’s face.
  • Tossing the bouquet. Would you ever think that the bouquet toss tradition draws its roots from a custom where guests tore apart the bride’s dress to “steal” a piece of her good fortune? These days, bouquets are tossed for a group of single women invited at the wedding – and the one who catches it is also considered the one to get married next.
  • Kissing the bride. Back in Ancient Rome, kissing the bride was an actually legal seal that made the wedding official. Nowadays, kissing the bride is more of a romantic symbol, rather than an actual legal act and it marks the completion of the wedding ceremony.
