Having a flower girl is a really great addition to just about any type of wedding – but what is the etiquette surrounding this important member of the wedding party? We have some tips to help you with this – so read on and find out more, so that you are prepared for your Big Day.
- You may or may not have a flower girl – it is entirely up to you. Some couples choose to have a no-children event, and that’s totally fine if it makes you feel happy on your wedding day. Even more, there are couples who do invite children at their wedding, but skip the flower girl or ring bearer part too!
- Regarding the age of the flower girl, she should be old enough to be able to walk down the aisle on her own (although, again, there are cases when toddlers are walked down the aisle by the bridesmaids, or by an older ring bearer).
- On the other hand, it is important to mention that there’s absolutely no upper age limit for the flower girl. This means that anyone can play this role – maybe an young cousin in her pre-teens or teen years who couldn’t be a bridesmaid per se, or maybe even a dear auntie or grandmother. Again, it’s all about you and the message you want your wedding to send!
- If you do choose to have a very young flower girl, make sure you prepare her, together with her parents, for the Big Day. Rehearsing everything, telling her how important her role is, and ensuring her parents are nearby to comfort her if the emotions are too heavy – these are just a few of the things you should do.
