Be mindful of money as you plan your wedding

Like it or not, weddings do tend to cost quite a lot – and not all brides can afford breaking the bank for the Big Day. Fortunately for the modern couple, a low budget doesn’t have to mean you’ll skimp on everything wedding-related.

In fact, you can get a splendid wedding when running on a tighter budget too. Here are some money tips to help you with this:

  • Narrow the guest list. Yes, this is the first and foremost tip of advice for those of you looking to shrink the bill. You may not like it (and your parents may like it even less), but it is the single best way to ensure your wedding will not cost a fortune.
  • Think beyond the classics. Big ballroom and seated dinner? How about a National Park and a brunch wedding? Or a local food truck and some beers over a garden party? These days, you have oh-so-many wonderfully inexpensive options to choose from! Don’t limit yourself to the traditional, expensive wedding elements.
  • Skip the favors. One thing you can definitely skip? The favors. Your guests know you are grateful for their presence at your wedding – they don’t need fridge magnets or cookies to understand this. Skip the favors and use the money for something that makes you feel genuinely happy on your Big Day.
  • Hire professionals. You may think hiring your brother as the DJ and your auntie as the pastry chef is a great, money-friendly idea. But it isn’t. There’s a lot more risk involved in this – and, after all, you want your loved ones to enjoy your wedding, not to work during the Big Day, right?
